UPDATED 27 May 2025
Due to recent snow melt caused by unseasonably warm temperatures, Mt Hutt has announced a delay to its anticipated early opening. The ski area will now revert to its original opening date of June 13.
Mt Hutt had originally opened its 2025 ski season on May 30, the earliest opening in over 15 years, thanks to a substantial early May snowfall that delivered over a metre of coverage across the mountain. The field initially planned to operate on weekends only, including the King’s Birthday long weekend, with full daily operations to commence from June 14, weather permitting.
However, the recent warm spell has affected snowpack stability and coverage, prompting the ski area to reassess its operating schedule.
Skiers and visitors are advised to check Mt Hutt’s official website and social channels for the latest updates on snow conditions, lift operations, and revised opening plans. Despite the delay, anticipation remains high for a strong 2025 snow season once colder weather returns.
