Huka Falls, located near Taupō on New Zealand’s North Island, is a remarkable natural feature on the Waikato River. Here, the river narrows from approximately 100 meters to just 15 meters, causing a significant increase in water flow. This constriction results in an average of 220 cubic meters of water per second surging through the canyon, creating a powerful and mesmerizing display.
The falls rush through a small canyon, culminating in a six-meter drop, the Huka Falls. The depth of the water at the base raises the effective height to 11 meters. This dramatic waterfall is one of New Zealand’s most visited natural attractions, easily accessible from State Highway 1 and just a short drive from Taupō.
