This week’s snowfall was a welcome sight at Cardrona and Treble Cone Ski Areas, with winter snow conditions – check out their ski report, across both mountains, and thousands of happy skiers and snowboarders enjoying fresh snow and bluebird weather days.

2025 has been a lighter snow year across New Zealand, with most ski areas who have been able to open doing so with mostly man-made snow. It’s been a waiting game for Mother Nature to join the party, but Cardrona and Treble Cone’s patience has finally paid off, with 15cm falling on both mountains to top up their snowmaking and terrain teams’ hard work.

“These are the conditions we’ve been waiting for,” says Cardrona & Treble Cone’s Chief Mountains Officer, Laura Hedley. “And there’s more snow in the long-range forecast for the end of August and start of September – spring is always full of surprises up here.”

Fresh snow and great conditions at Cardrona and Treble Cone

Now New Zealand’s biggest ski resort, Cardrona has been a mecca for skiers and snowboarders of all levels this season

From those taking their first turns, to those hitting Cardrona’s world-famous terrain parks or taking on 150ha of new terrain in Soho Basin. This winter has been one for the books in terms of numbers, with the highest visitation on record for Cardrona and Treble Cone for Winter 2025 to date.

“It’s been amazing to see skiers and snowboarders from across New Zealand, Australia and further afield up this week Queenstown at both mountains,” says Hedley. “With a month and a half left of the ski season, and incredible events coming up like the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational, this is for sure the best time to come up and see us.”

While almost all terrain at both resorts has already opened, fresh snow brings opportunities to further spread skiers and snowboarders out across the mountains. and finish builds on freestyle facilities such as Cardrona’s World Cup halfpipe and big air jump ahead of a key training period for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
