The Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix in Geneva marked a historic win for the Germany SailGP Team
After two years of steady progress, Erik Kosegarten-Heil and his crew finally broke through, claiming their first-ever event victory in front of an enthusiastic Swiss crowd.
In tricky, light conditions on Lake Geneva, Germany SailGP Team handled the pressure superbly, advancing to the three-boat final and then outperforming Australia and Switzerland to lift the trophy.
The result makes Germany SailGP Team the seventh different winner, underlining just how competitive and unpredictable the championship is
The final day’s racing proved a difficult test for all crews, with wind speeds dropping below the 28 km/h needed to keep the F50s consistently foiling. Germany set the tone by winning fleet race four and backing it up with a third place in race five – enough to secure their first event final appearance.
Spain, who won race five for their best result of the weekend, showed flashes of their title-winning form but fell short overall, while Brazil’s day ended early after pre-race damage forced them out.
Australia’s BONDS Flying Roos, led by Tom Slingsby, pushed hard throughout the weekend and were rewarded with second place overall, a result that also sees them reclaim the lead in the season standings on 76 points.
Emirates GBR remain in the hunt on 75, with New Zealand sliding back to third on 73 after a weekend of missed opportunities. Spain hold fourth but remain within striking distance heading into their home event.
For Switzerland, the weekend marked another step forward in their development, reaching their second-ever event final – and the first at home.
