The Coromandel - Mautohe Cathedral Cove

The walking track to Mautohe Cathedral Cove has reopened this weekend following a temporary closure caused by recent extreme weather in the North Island.

The track was closed under the Department of Conservation Trigger Action Response Plan after heavy rain increased the risk of landslides and rockfall. After geotechnical inspections, DOC confirmed the track is now safe for public use.

Mautohe Cathedral Cove Visitors are still advised to take care, as rockfall and slips remain a natural risk in the area, particularly after rainfall.

DOC will continue to monitor conditions and may close the track again if safety thresholds are reached. For the latest track conditions across the Coromandel, visitors should check the DOC website before travelling.
