On February 14-15, the Auckland’s waterfront takes centre stage as SailGP Auckland returns to the Waitematā Harbour for two days of high-speed racing. With foiling F50 catamarans racing just metres from shore, SailGP offers one of the most accessible major sporting spectacles on the Auckland calendar – whether you’re inside the Race Stadium or watching from public vantage points around the harbour.

Inside the Race Stadium: What to expect on the day

The SailGP Race Stadium offers prime views of the racecourse and a full event-day experience, including food and beverage vendors, official merchandise, and live entertainment. Water refill stations are available — bring an empty reusable bottle.

Entry is via mobile ticket scanning, with security checks in place. Arriving early is recommended to allow time for entry and to get settled before racing begins.

Weather and What to Wear

Conditions on the waterfront can be windy, particularly in the grandstand, and shade is limited. Visitors are advised to check the forecast and dress for comfort, including sun protection such as hats, sunscreen, and light layers.

Bags and What You Can Bring

All bags are subject to inspection, and all guests will undergo security screening.

  • One bag up to 30 × 30 cm, or
  • A small clutch or purse (hand-sized)

There is no storage available for oversized or non-permitted items.

Alcohol, food, drinks, umbrellas, glass items, chairs, single-use plastics, smoking or vaping devices, and other restricted items are not permitted. Confiscated items cannot be returned.

SailGP Auckland offers a rare opportunity to see world-class racing in the heart of the city. Whether you’re inside the Race Stadium or watching from one of the many free public vantage points, planning ahead – particularly around transport and arrival times – will make race day smoother and more enjoyable.

Free Viewing Locations Around the Harbour

You don’t need a grandstand seat to enjoy SailGP. Several areas around the waterfront offer excellent free viewing of the racecourse, particularly for spectators who arrive early.

Notable public viewing spots include:

  • Westhaven Marina – Elevated viewpoints and clear sightlines toward the race area
  • North Wharf – Close-in waterfront viewing near the Viaduct
  • Silo Park – Open public space with good harbour visibility
  • Viaduct Harbour edges and promenades – Multiple angles on the racecourse, particularly near Wynyard Quarter

Availability at free viewing points is first-come, first-served, and areas can fill quickly on fine days.
