The first show for Auckland Arts Festival 2026 has been announced – and it’s a big one. The world-renowned Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Asia’s oldest orchestra, will perform two exclusive concerts in Auckland this March.
Founded in 1879 and led by conductor Long Yu, the SSO has graced stages from Carnegie Hall to the BBC Proms. This will be the first international symphony orchestra to perform in Auckland in 25 years — a major moment for the Festival.
Expect a stunning mix of classical favourites like Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, plus the standout centrepiece Chinese Kitchen: A Feast of Flavours – a ten-movement suite inspired by iconic Chinese dishes.
