Spring Is Looking Epic at Tūroa!

3 September 2025 – Tūroa is looking awesome this spring, with fresh snow and solid depth across the field. The upper slopes are sitting at around 125 cm, and the lower at 90 cm, following about 45 cm of new snow over the past 7 days – just the kind of top-up than makes a good season. Conditions are looking primed for some late-season turns if the forecasted additional snow arrives. It’s spring skiing at its best, Game on!

Possible Big Snow coming this weekend & Early next week

27 August 2025 – More snow is on the way for Mt Ruapehu, with a winter blast expected to deliver a solid late-August top-up. After a windy midweek across the South Island, conditions turn colder on Sunday as a southerly change sweeps up the country. The result: fresh powder for Ruapehu’s slopes (Whakapapa and Tūroa), with potentially up to half a metre up top.

Tūroa snow base hits 125cm up top!

21 August 2025 – Tūroa has stacked up some serious snow over the last week from the storm, with 50cm falling in the last 7 days, including 3cm in the past 24 hours. The snow base now sits at 90cm on the Alpine Meadow and over 1.25 metres at the top of the Giant Chair.

Fresh snow boost for Tūroa Ski Area

Tūroa Ski Area has received a welcome winter boost, with 20cm of fresh snow settling across the mountain. The heaviest coverage is at the upper slopes, where conditions are shaping up to be the best so far this season.

After a slow start to winter, the snowfall is expected to significantly improve terrain and access. Grooming crews are already at work, preparing runs for skiers and snowboarders in the days ahead. The forecast is predicting further snowfalls through the weekend, potentially delivering the first full winter conditions of the season for Tūroa.

Tūroa is open – and the snow has arrived

Yes, Tūroa Ski Area is officially open for the season. Snow has arrived on Mt Ruapehu in a hurry – over 30 to 40cm in the past week alone. The forecast is for clearing weather, hopefully over the weekend, so we could see a few more lifts opening from now on. Winter has arrived, and now it’s time for you to ski!

Yes, Tūroa Ski Area is officially open for the season. Like most of the Mt Ruapehu right now, it’s still waiting on more natural snow – but don’t worry, the bulk of it usually turns up in July and August, so the season’s right on track.

If you’re heading up with the kids, Alpine Meadow is open and Freddy’s Café, which is always a great spot for lunch or a hot chocolate break.

If you’re looking for something to do these school holidays, Tūroa’s still a great option. There’s snow to play in, the lifts are running, and it’s always fun getting the kids up the mountain for a day out.
