SailGP heads back to Sydney this weekend (February 28 – March 1), and this round comes with something a little different. For the first time, racing on the harbour will run into the evening, with the fleet competing as the sun sets and the city lights begin to flicker on. It’s a new look for a venue that has played a key role in the championship’s story from the beginning.

Twilight sailing is not something we see often

Eleven national teams (no France or New Zealand, due to a crash in Auckland) will take to the water in Sydney Harbour, machines that can top 100 km/h when conditions allow. The racecourse, set tightly around Shark Island, is designed for close racing – short legs, sharp turns and very little margin for error. Add in fading light and changing breeze, and the stage is set for intense, high-speed racing in front of one of the world’s great skylines.
