Whakapapa Ski Area just the reached the 1 metre milestone for the 2025 season. After a slow start, the second half of the season is shaping up to be one to remember. Trails across the mountain are in great condition, with smooth lines now open, including the Valley Traverse flowing into Valley Highway.
On the western slopes, the mountain crew have been working hard to get more terrain open
The Far West T-bar requires its haul rope to be removed each summer because of the risk of icing, and access can only be created once there’s a solid snow base. Thanks to last week’s snowfall, that step is now complete. The team is waiting on a clear weather window to reinstall the rope safely, ensuring it won’t get buried under fresh snow.
The West Ridge Quad is also on the horizon. The plan is to align its opening with the next stretch of settled weather, so keen riders are encouraged to keep a close eye on Whakapapa’s social channels for updates.
Whakapapa Ski Area, a magic second half of the season
With deepening snow cover and more terrain coming online, Whakapapa is shaping up for an epic spring. The late-season turnaround has given skiers and snowboarders plenty to get excited about – and with more snow in the forecast, conditions should only improve.
