SailGP Auckland 2026: Day 2 Results Summary
Australia’s Bonds Flying Roos win again in the City of Sails, sealing victory in a dramatic, rain-soaked Final on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour
In gusts of up to 45 km/h, the league’s top three teams powered past 90 km/h, delivering the fastest racing of the day. Spain’s Los Gallos nailed the start and led early, while Emirates GBR split from the pack in a bold tactical move and surged late, overhauling the Spanish on the line to take second.
With strong winds forecast, SailGP ran a split-fleet format for the first time in racing – dividing the 11 competing teams into two groups, Group A and Group B, to contest four split-fleet races before a three-boat Final.
More space on the racecourse did not mean less intensity, far from it – it was a testament to the teams sailing ability that were no more incidents. Top-end conditions, flat waters and unpredictable shifts continued to test crews throughout the day.
The win sees Australia move level on 17 points overall with Emirates GBR, overtaking the British team on the standings.
SailGP Auckland 2026: Day 1 Results Summary
Auckland was dramatically cut short after two fleet races following a catastrophic collision between the home-team Black Foils and DS Team France
The crash occurred at the beginning of fleet race three, when the Black Foils lost control of their F50 catamaran at high speed, veering sharply in front of the French boat. The Black Foils F50 suffered event ending damage in the incident as France’s F50 collided on top of the Kiwis’ hull.
Two athletes were taken to hospital in stable condition for treatment, while all other crew members were cleared of injuries. To be honest it could have been a lot worse.
Before racing was halted, thirteen international teams had taken to one of the tightest race courses of the 2026 season calendar in gusts up to 35 km/h. The Bonds Flying Roos claimed victory in the opening fleet race, while the Black Foils posted two podium scores – finishing third in race one and winning race two in front of home fans.
After the crash all races were abandoned for the day.
