The 2025 Ski Season: Turoa Ski Area Closing dates

So here we are, coming toward the end of the 2025 ski season - and wow, what a ride it's been

The 2025 New Zealand ski season closing dates are fast approaching, with major fields set to wrap up in the coming weeks. Coronet Peak and Treble Cone are now CLOSED, Cardrona CLOSED, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt (NOW CLOSED) on 12 October, while Whakapapa will operate Happy Valley until 5 October and the upper mountain until 26 October, alongside Tūroa, which is also set to close on 26 October 2025.

These dates may adjust depending on late-season snowfall, but they provide a guide for when the season will finish across the country. But it’s not done yet, so make the most of what are great spring snow conditions.

...and now we are down to to 2

The only two ski fields still operating for the 2025 season are Whakapapa and Tūroa, both scheduled to close on 26 October 2025.

So how did the 2025 ski season shape up?

At the start in June, we had lost of snow, some of the best the start of the season has seen. July was settled, especially in the South Island, with good coverage though a bit dry. Come August (middle to late), snow really arrived in big numbers – suddenly the North Island was looking white, and bases were building. September so far hasn’t let up – more snow keeps falling.
